Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about planning your Maldives holiday with us.
Travel
What is the best time to visit the Maldives?
The Maldives enjoys warm tropical weather year-round with temperatures between 25-31°C. The dry season (December to April) offers the best weather with clear skies and calm seas. The wet season (May to November) brings occasional rain showers and is ideal for surfing and offers better rates. Diving is excellent year-round, with manta rays most visible from May to November and whale sharks from November to April.
How do I get to my resort from Male airport?
Transfer options depend on your resort's location. Resorts in North and South Male Atoll (like Kurumba, Bandos, Waldorf Astoria, Anantara Dhigu) offer speedboat transfers taking 10-45 minutes. More remote resorts (Soneva Fushi, St. Regis Vommuli, Constance Moofushi, Centara Grand) require seaplane transfers of 25-45 minutes. Seaplanes only operate during daylight hours (6am-4pm), while speedboats often run 24 hours.
Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
The Maldives offers a free 30-day visa on arrival for all nationalities. You'll need a valid passport with at least 6 months validity, a confirmed hotel booking, and a return/onward flight ticket. No advance visa application is needed.
What currency is used in the Maldives?
The local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but US Dollars are widely accepted at all resorts. Most resorts price in USD and accept major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). There's no need to exchange currency before arrival — you can settle your resort bill by card.
Is it safe to travel to the Maldives?
The Maldives is one of the safest tourist destinations in the world. Resort islands are private and secure, with their own staff, medical facilities, and security. The country has a very low crime rate for tourists. Resorts maintain high hygiene and safety standards, and most have on-island medical clinics and decompression chambers for divers.
Accommodation
Is the Maldives good for families with children?
Absolutely! Many resorts cater specifically to families with kids' clubs, family villas, shallow lagoons, and child-friendly activities. Resorts like Kurumba, Waldorf Astoria, Soneva Fushi, Anantara Dhigu, and Centara Grand all offer excellent family programs. Look for resorts with speedboat transfers (easier with young children) and all-inclusive packages.
What is included in an all-inclusive package?
All-inclusive packages typically cover all meals at resort restaurants, selected alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, minibar restocking, and non-motorized water sports. Some resorts include excursions, spa credits, and diving. Premium all-inclusive packages may add top-shelf spirits, special dining experiences, and more activities. Each resort defines their own inclusions — we'll clarify exactly what's covered when planning your trip.
Can I island-hop between resorts?
Yes! Multi-resort itineraries are increasingly popular and something we specialize in. We can arrange transfers between resorts via speedboat, domestic flights, or seaplane. Our Maldives Discovery Duo package, for example, combines Soneva Fushi and Anantara Dhigu for the best of two atolls.
Activities
What water activities are available?
The Maldives offers world-class water activities including snorkeling (many resorts have excellent house reefs), scuba diving (PADI certification available), surfing, jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, dolphin cruises, and submarine tours. South Ari Atoll is famous for whale shark and manta ray encounters. Most resorts include non-motorized water sports complimentary.
